_The California Air Resources Board on Friday adopted the new rules, which require that one-in-seven of new cars sold in the state in 2025 be an electric or other zero-emission vehicle.

The plan also mandated a 75-percent reduction in smog-forming pollutants by 2025, and a 34 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions over roughly the same time.

Automakers worked with the board and federal regulators on the greenhouse gas mandates in an effort to create one national standard for those pollutants.

California's auto emissions standards are often more strict than federal ones. Currently 14 other states have adopted them as their own.

_To choose the winners of its 2011 True Cost to Own® Awards, the team at Edmunds.com gathered data on every 2011 vehicle on the market and estimated the five-year cost of owning each. After comparing every vehicle, Chevrolet came out on top twice: The 2011 Equinox and the 2011 Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab pickup.

“The 2011 Chevy Equinox is a stylish and comfortable entry in the highly competitive small-crossover segment,” Edmunds.com says. “RAV4 and CR-V shoppers should take notice.” They also note Equinox’s “premium look inside and out,” quiet cabin with tons of storage, and highly fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine3.

A little over a month ago GM brought to everyone's attention efforts by GM and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) to better understand the cause of a post-crash electrical fire that occurred after NHTSA crash tested a Chevrolet Volt. We are posting this information today to inform you of GM's solution to this issue.

GM remains firm in their belief that the Volt is a safe car - before, during and immediately after a crash. Although there have been no real world customer incidents, GM is taking precautionary steps to ensure your peace of mind. The focus of this investigation has been on what happens days or weeks after a severe side pole impact test, followed by a roll over. GM is enhancing the vehicle structure and battery coolant system to improve battery protection after a severe crash. GM will notify current Volt owners in February 2012 to schedule service to make these modifications.
