![]() They’re the engineers who have come to be known as the “Malibu Moms.” The team consists of a crash expert, an organic gardener with specially trained hearing skills, a blue-haired, roller derby jammer and master of aerodynamics, and a Harvard master’s degree candidate with a patent for lighting technology. And while they all seem like vastly different personalities with equally diverse areas of expertise, these four engineers all share the common bond of motherhood that has earned them their nickname. The link between being both moms and engineers is an important one for this team consisting of Julie Kleinert, Kara Gordon, Suzanne Cody and Tracy Mack-Askew. Their unique insights as moms have helped drive the engineering of key components on the 2013 Malibu. “People spend a lot of time in their vehicles,” said Gordon, the lead acoustic noise engineer of Malibu. “It’s really important for me to spend that time with my kids in a positive way. If your car isn’t quiet, you can’t hear your kids talking to you in the background, and you can’t hear how their day went.” Valuable insights such as Gordon’s have helped to make the 2013 Malibu a more well-rounded safe and exceptionally quiet ride. “Women engineers can provide a unique perspective to the design and engineering process,” said Rebecca Lindland, director of research at IHS Automotive. “For example, women are generally smaller than men so ergonomic needs are different. We also have a heightened sense of safety and tend to be more sensitive to the needs of family.” Important insights such as these have had a tremendous impact in making the 2013 Malibu ready to take on the world. As the first global midsize sedan for Chevrolet, Malibu will be sold in 100 countries throughout six continents. As moms and engineers, this team can take pride in knowing that their accomplishments will be felt across the world.

CHEVY OFFERS ITS FIRST REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE, V-8 POWERED PERFORMANCE SEDAN SINCE 1996 – THE 2014 SS.5/24/2012 ![]() A V-8 powered, rear-wheel-drive performance sedan, the Chevrolet SS, returns to the US lineup. Even better? The SS will also be Chevrolet’s next NASCAR Sprint Cup racecar and will first debut in its race configuration at the 2013 Daytona 500. Chevrolet has a long history of using the SS (Super Sport) designation on high-performance models of some of its most enduring nameplates, most recently on Camaro models. The limited production version of the Chevrolet SS will debut as part of the 2014 model year and will arrive in dealer showrooms late 2013. “As a passionate race fan and performance enthusiast, I am thrilled that Chevrolet will deliver a true rear-wheel-drive NASCAR racecar in the SS that is closely linked to the performance sedan that will be available for sale,” said Mark Reuss, president of GM North America. “The Chevrolet SS is a great example of how GM is able to leverage its global product portfolio to deliver a unique performance experience that extends beyond the track. I am personally looking forward to driving it.” The first production vehicle offered with an SS option was the 1961 Impala – 453 were built with the performance upgrades which included a modified chassis and suspension, power brakes, a steering column mounted tachometer and unique wheels and tires. The new SS will be the first rear-wheel-drive, V-8 performance sedan in the Chevrolet lineup since the Impala SS ended production in 1996. The storied history and strong emotion tied to past iterations of the SS are sure to fuel passion and intrigue as Chevy makes plans to release the vehicle in 2014. Chevrolet was America’s best-selling performance car brand in 2011 with Camaro and Corvette accounting for one out of every three sports cars sold in the United States. The addition of the SS to the lineup will further strengthen Chevrolet’s position as a leading performance brand.

![]() Via: KTAR Baby Boomers, people age 50 and above, are driving up new car sales. 62% of new vehicles sold are purchased by baby boomers, a jump from 39% in 2001 according to AARP and J.D. Power. "We've seen that trend emerge more clearly over the past four years," said Courtesy Chevrolet's Sales Director Scott Gruwell to news radio KTAR. "It seems boomers are buying new and Millennials are buying used." The percentage of new car purchases by baby boomers has surged past the corresponding population growth percentage. The high prices of gas are the perceived cause of Millenials purchasing used cars. "Boomers' discretionary income was less affected than Millennials'," Gruwell said. "Frankly, [older buyers] don't have the patience to mess around with [something used] and want the reliability and securing of a new vehicle." Click here to view the entire article.
