MIAMI, April 26, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The Vehicle Production Group, LLC (VPG) has recently added two new dealerships Phoenix, AZ and Wilmington, DE, increasing the automotive company's network to fifty nationwide. VPG produces the MV-1, the only factory-built, wheelchair accessible vehicle in the world for consumer, livery and taxi use at their plant in Mishawaka, IN.
The MV-1 of Arizona is part of the Phoenix- based Courtesy Chevrolet Group, owned by the Gruwell family. The dealership is the largest Chevrolet dealership in Arizona and has been operating since 1955.
The MV-1 of Delaware is part of the Wilmington- based Auto Team Delaware group, owned by Michael Uffner. The dealership was founded in 1916 and today is home to Cadillac, Kia and Subaru franchises- and now VPG.
"We're thrilled to announce the expansion of our dealer network through these new partnerships with Courtesy Chevrolet Group and Auto Team Delaware," said John Walsh, CEO of VPG. "VPG's mission is to provide the hundreds of thousands of wheelchair users and their families with a safe, reliable vehicle that meets their transportation needs without sacrificing comfort and dignity, and the expansion of our national network supports this goal."
The MV-1 features a fully deployable right-side ramp (available in manual and automatic versions) and can accommodate up to six occupants - including wheelchairs and motorized scooters. All MV-1 models feature a sturdy, rigid, fully-boxed frame; a Ford 4.6-liter V8 engine; and a Ford electronic 4-speed transmission. The MV-1 is available with either compressed natural gas (CNG) or conventional gasoline fueling systems. The MV-1 has also been approved for use as a taxicab in New York City and Philadelphia.
