Chevy Malibu leads the way with fuel-saving standard start/stop technology

7/23/2014

Chevy Malibu
In the blink of an eye, the 2014 and 2015 Chevrolet Malibu is leading the way in bringing fuel-saving standard start/stop technology to the mainstream sedan market.

Ninety-seven percent of customers who purchased a 2014 or 2015 Malibu – accounting for about 83,000 vehicles – opted for the 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder base engine equipped with standard stop/start technology. It is the most aggressive rollout of stop/start technology in the U.S. by an American automaker.

Stop/start reduces fuel consumption and wasteful idling by automatically shutting off the engine when the car comes to a stop – such as at a traffic light. The engine automatically restarts within 337 milliseconds – about the speed of the blink of an eye – after the driver takes his foot off the brake.

“Chevrolet will continue to bring innovative technologies across our product lineup and stop/start is one of many ways we are helping customers save at the gas pump,” said Steve Majoros, director of Chevrolet cars.

Last fall, the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu became the first vehicle for the brand sold in the U.S. with stop/start technology. In conjunction with a new valve lift control feature and a new six-speed automatic transmission, it helped achieve a 14-percent improvement in city fuel economy, or an EPA-estimated 25 miles per gallon.

J.D. Power’s most recent Initial Quality Survey, which measures the quality of vehicles after 90 days of ownership, showed customers ranked the 2014 Malibu higher than any other vehicle in its segment.

The technology capitalizes on vehicle idling occurrences. According to Sustainable America, the average American driver spends 16 minutes each day idling in his or her vehicle. That adds up to four days a year going nowhere.

Vehicle idling also results in Americans wasting approximately 3.8 million gallons of gas each day, according to a study by The Hinkle Charitable Foundation.

This explains in part Chevrolet’s commitment to the technology. Recently, Chevrolet announced the addition of standard stop/start technology in the flagship 2015 Impala sedan. It improves city fuel economy by 5 percent, or one mpg for an EPA-estimated 22 miles per gallon. The 2015 Impala is available for sale now.

A report from Navigant Research predicted worldwide sales of vehicles with stop/start technology will grow from 8.8 million in 2013 to 55.4 million in 2022.

Courtesy Chevrolet explains how the Text Message Alert technology works in your Chevy

7/17/2014

Picture
The Text Message Alerts technology pairs your phone or another Bluetooth device that offers text messaging. Now you can initiate a command through the message icon, located on the display screen.
What functions do you get to enjoy?

If your phone pairs up properly, you can do any of the following tasks.
  • Displaying and reading an incoming text message from the touch display screen. You can do this only if you are not driving the vehicle or a passenger has been detected.
  • Listening to the message which the system will read out to you
  • Choosing an appropriate response from a list of pre-defined ones

And are they beneficial?
The Text Message Alert feature provides you with a number of advantages. For starters, it reduces distractions by allowing you to keep your hands on the wheel and eyes ahead. So even when driving with full concentration, you will still be able to access all of your important messages.

Vehicles that offer the Text Message Alert feature
This feature is available for all models that incorporate the MyLink™, IntelliLink or Cadillac CUE3 technology, with the exception of Spark, Spark EV, Sonic and Trax. Models such as  Sierra 2500HD and 3500H, Escalade/ESVD, Tahoe, Suburban, Silverado Heavy Duty, Yukon  and Yukon XL have the Text Message Alerts feature.

Please note that this feature is offered only with 2015 models but there are exceptions once again. Certain 14MY vehicles also have this feature such as the Cruze, Cruze Diesel, Chevrolet Camaro, Traverse, Volt, Equinox, Malibu and SS.

Courtesy Chevrolet reviews the Chevy 4G LTE Wi-Fi and how it works

6/16/2014

Chevy Wi-Fi
Internet in your car? It’s here. Chevrolet is the first and only car company to bring built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi to cars, trucks and crossovers.

Connect up to 7 devices
The 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot turns your vehicle into a reliable mobile hub, with great signal quality and bandwidth for up to 7 devices.

Fast, easy, reliable
Built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi provides a better in-vehicle experience than your smartphone. The stronger signal delivers a fast and reliable connection†. It’s automatically on after initial setup and ready to connect to your mobile devices.

More powerful connection than a smartphone.
In addition to providing a fast, reliable data connection, the 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot offers exceptional convenience. Say you’re driving colleagues to a meeting. Your passenger gets an email about a crucial update to the presentation your team is about to make. With the 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, your passenger can easily make the update and

email the revision. Another example: Your kid’s soccer game is tonight, but you have to work. No problem. With the 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, you can watch the game and get the job done.

4G LTE Wi-Fi rolling out this summer
Chevrolet is rolling out 4G LTE Wi-Fi on more models than any other car company, starting in June with the 2015 Malibu, Impala and Volt. Later this summer, the technology is coming to the 2015 Equinox, Silverado, Corvette, Sonic, Spark and Spark EV.

Near the end of the year, the 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot will be available on the 2015 Cruze, Cruze Diesel, Suburban, Tahoe, SS and Trax.

Customers of the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe will get a vehicle that offers a new level of security and one designed to deter thieves who target vehicle parts.

Thwarting theft was a design focus of Chevrolet’s full-size SUVs.
New standard features include a steering column lock that deters push-away and tow-away theft – a significant portion of today’s stolen vehicle incidents; side cut keys that deter lock picking and more robust door lock cylinders and shields to prevent access with slim jims and other tools.

What are the most important safety features for your teens vehicle? Courtesy  Chevrolet shares the answers.

7/8/2013

Picture
Here are the top three safety features for your teen:

  • Electronic stability control. This feature uses braking and engine power to bring a car back under control. It's particularly important for teens, because they tend to overcorrect when they start to lose control of their vehicles, which often happens when they're driving too fast. Automakers were required to start installing stability control on cars with the 2009 model year, and all 2012 models had to have the feature. It was already quite common by the time the government required it. Even some 10-year-old used luxury cars have stability control.

  • Side air bags. Teens are among the most likely to get themselves involved in what's known as a single-vehicle, run-off-the-road crash. These aren't the most common crashes, but they are among the deadliest, because they often lead to rollovers. Side-impact air bags are a must, but side-curtain bags are, too, as they help protect the head if the car flips over.

  • Front-collision warning or mitigation. Frontal collisions may not be the most deadly, but they are a type that teens are likely to get into. This feature uses sensors to detect other vehicles a driver may not see, then warns — and in some cars, brakes — when a crash is imminent. Volvo, for example, offered this feature in 2010 on its XC60, then put it on most of its 2011 models.
