Chevrolet returns to South by Southwest (SXSW), the interactive, film and music festival for a third year in a row, with free rides to the hottest venues, easy-to-use in-vehicle tech, a battle of graffiti artists and a multi-night music series. “South by Southwest offers Chevrolet a unique opportunity to showcase the brand and its products through integrated activities that are designed to enhance the overall conference experience,” said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Global Marketing and Strategy. “We are also able to learn a lot about trends in technology, film and music that we can then use in the development of new products like the Sonic compact car and MyLink in-vehicle infotainment system.” Chevrolet will offer the following at SXSW: Navigate the Streets of Austin with Chevrolet Since getting through the crowded festival may be tough, Chevrolet is again offering the complimentary “Catch-A-Chevy” shuttle service to festival-goers. A fleet of Chevrolet Cruze compact sedans and Equinox crossovers will provide continuous service, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., each day of the festival. Anyone attending the festival can hail a marked vehicle just like a taxi, or visit the “Catch-A-Chevy” stop outside of the Austin Convention Center on Trinity between 3rd and 4th streets. Also outside of the Austin Convention center, attendees can get behind the wheel for test drives of the Chevrolet Volt, Cruze, Camaro, Sonic, Corvette and new Malibu Eco. All of the available vehicles will have Quick Response (QR) Codes that attendees can scan with their smartphones to access information about the vehicle’s highlights. Chevrolet will also leverage social-media services, like FourSquare, to connect with attendees in Austin. Chevrolet will offer tips on getting into upcoming events or directions to the closest “Catch-A-Chevy” to anyone checking into locations around the city. Relax and Recharge Since the non-stop, 10-day festival is packed with parties, concerts and information sessions, Chevrolet is offering attendees the Volt Recharge Lounge to recharge themselves and their mobile devices. Throughout the day, the Volt Recharge Lounge will offer attendees a place to rest their feet and recharge their smart phones, laptops and other electronic devices. Two locations will be available for attendees – for the entire conference at the Austin Convention Center and during the music portion of the conference at the Chevrolet Sound Garage at 614 E. 6th Street. Chevrolet Sound Garage – Indie Music Series & Graffiti ‘Secret Walls’ Art Battle Chevrolet Indie Music Series and Graffiti ‘Secret Walls’ Art Battle offers music fans four nights of live music and two nights of graffiti artist competition. All of these events take place at the Chevrolet Sound Garage located at 614 E. 6th Street. On Wednesday, March 14, Chevrolet will showcase an eclectic mix of indie bands that will play from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Then on Thursday, March 15, from 8-10 p.m., talented graffiti artists compete on side-by-side 16 x 8 foot canvases, followed by more up-and-coming bands from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. On Friday, March 16, Chevrolet Sound Garage will host another music showcase with up-and-coming musical acts from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Finally, on Saturday, March 17, the final group of musicians will rock from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. as the final round of the Graffiti ‘Secret Walls’ Art Battle from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. Chevrolet MyLink Use your smartphone to check out Chevrolet’s new MyLink infotainment system. MyLink allows owners of compatible devices to bring their own media into a Chevrolet vehicle including personal playlists, photo galleries, phone books and movies. Apps for U.S.-based Pandora and Stitcher internet radio will be available with additional functionality, like integrated voice recognition, being introduced on some vehicles as the system is rolled out across the Chevrolet lineup. “At South by Southwest, technology is king and we have learned a lot from our previous experiences at the conference that the new generation of car buyers expects reliable, seamless connectivity,” said Perry. “MyLink is easy to use, safe and delivers the tech you want when you want it.” OnStar 4G LTE Volt Recently unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, OnStar’s latest generation of its 4G LTE concept vehicle will be on display at SXSW, showcasing the most comprehensive in-vehicle experience in a Chevrolet Volt. The in-car infotainment system, developed by OnStar in partnership with Verizon, gives customers access to the Cloud through the Verizon 4G LTE network and provides users direct access to streaming content from their home computer or via a popular streaming service, showcasing the most connected in-vehicle experience. The Volt will be on display outside of the Austin Convention Center March 10-13, during show hours and will make stops at the AllHat influencer event and the Tweethouse blogger event.
