Note: This post originally appeared on the website The Future Is Electric. Earlier this week, we attended Global Green’s Pre-Oscar Party, an event sponsored by Chevrolet that was filled with talented actors, artists and environmentalists. While celebrities like Alison Brie and Sophia Bush arrived to the green carpet in HOV-lane ready Chevy Volts, we chatted in the Volt lounge with celebs John Galecki, Adrian Grenier, Dylan McDermott and other influential eco-luminaries in Hollywood. Later on, I took the stage to introduce Emmy and Grammy Nominee, world renowned entertainer and philanthropist Sheila E. who tore the house down with her performance. Backstage, I asked Sheila E. to share her thoughts on environmentalism and what she personally does on a daily basis to live a sustainable life. You can read excerpts from my Hollywood interview with Sheila E. below. Ah, yes… I do lead a glamorous life. Comments by Sheila E.: On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of performing before more than 1,200 people at Global Green’s 9th Annual Pre-Oscar Party. I spent an incredibly fun night filled with great company – just check out some of the photos to get a sense of the buzz. But most importantly, we were not only gathered to celebrate the upcoming Academy Awards, we were also in the presence of other eco-luminaries, activists and leading movers and shakers of environmentalism. During the night, I met so many caring and passionate people – joined together to better our community and create a healthier environment today and for future generations. I was also excited to help launch Global Green’s citizen entrepreneur/local green hero contest and help call for President Obama to attend the Rio Earth Summit. You can nominate your green hero at globalgreen.org. To me, the protection of the Earth’s resources are a vital part of our responsibility as citizens in the community. Like Global Green, I truly believe in everyone coming together to do their part in protecting the environment and creating a sustainable future, whether you devote a Saturday morning to help clean up your local beach or drive an electric vehicle and keep the air clean. During the night, we heard from some of the greatest environmentalists in our community today. I was so inspired by the big steps we have taken as a society to move towards sustainability. Driving to the event in a Chevy Volt reminded me that only a few years ago our main mode of transportation was unsustainable for the environment with every mile the tires spun. Today, we have cars like the Volt that give us hope that we can continue to drive cars and maintain our modern and comfortable mode of transportation in an environmentally-friendly way. From the innovation of electric vehicles to organizations like Global Green, I know that we are taking big strides protecting resources for our community and that’s definitely something to celebrate in my book. Check out the video from the green carpet and hear how these stars play their part to protect the environment, and also hear about their predictions for this year’s “Best Picture.” For more pictures you can head to this link on VoltAge.
