Father’s Day is a time for ties, socks and Old Spice. But one family have set a new bench mark that many sons and daughters will find hard to replicate this Father’s Day. The story goes that way back in 1962 a young Cecil R. Sims, fresh out of College and in the Forestry Service, drove down from Williams to Phoenix with his good friend Carl Winslow to purchase a new Chevrolet truck. They followed the historic arrow on Camelback and purchased a new 1962 Chevy half-ton pickup from Courtesy Chevrolet for $1,700. The truck stayed in the family all these years and racked up 300,000 miles of memories. Beside this is a picture of Cecil’s family on one of their many adventures. It got sold from family member to another, but was still in the Cecil Sims family. For the last 15 years, the Chevrolet truck was down on its luck and close to scrap, and it may have ended its days that way. However Cecil Sims daughter and son in law hatched a plan. Cecil’s daughter said to her husband, “Let’s restore the Chevy truck and give it back to father as a surprise this father’s day”, this was in December 2013. Jim Anderson wistfully said, let me think on this over a beer, or two. Keep in mind, the truck was not in pristine condition, and 5 and a half months was a tall order to completely rebuild a 1962 truck. It had been sitting for 15 years and had over 300,000 miles on it! But, keep in mind, it was a Chevrolet. Jim Anderson agreed to the challenge and keeping this a complete surprise, spent the next five and have months deconstructing and rebuilding this 1962 Chevrolet truck to pristine condition. Jim reached out to Courtesy Chevrolet with the ultimate Father’s Day surprise. But Ssssshhhhh, this is a secret, no one let the word out. Cecil Sims cannot find out. Jim approached Courtesy Chevrolet to redeliver the truck on the showroom floor this Saturday, June 14th, 2014. Family and friends, and the team that helped rebuild the 1962 pickup will join the celebration at noon at Courtesy Chevrolet on Camelback. Now, keep in mind, this is a surprise, Cecil Sims has no idea, but at 12:00 he will see his 1962 truck restored to its glory on the showroom floor where he bought it from Courtesy Chevrolet.
